We were descending from a visit to the great fort above Jodhpur,
waiting at the side of the walk, when a young man approached
and signed he would like to take a selfie with me. Me! The ugliest
American within view, but I readily consented. Then he led
me over to a couple of young women, and our local guide said the
young man and one of the gals, who was gorgeous in an orange
sari, had been married, in fact only two days previously. She still had the
henna designs on her hands.
