Terezin - Statue

Terezín -- known to us more familiarly by its German name, Theresienstadt -- was the Nazis showplace concentration camp, shown to the International Red Cross to demonstrate how well the Nazis treated the Jews.  Needless to say, it was all a charade.  Terezín itself was a ghetto created as a transit facility, funneling victims to the Nazis' extermination camps like Auschwitz.

This statue memorializes arrival of Jews at the ghetto, carrying their few remaining possessions in these suitcases.
